Dr. Sara Cook grew up in Weston, MA, where she was deeply involved in eventing and Pony Club from a young age. She studied biology and Spanish as an undergraduate at UMass Amherst, then went on to earn her veterinary degree from Cornell University in 2008. After graduation, she completed a rotating internship in large animal medicine and surgery at the University of Georgia.
Since then, Dr. Sara has built a diverse veterinary background that includes sport horse practice, mixed animal work, and a meaningful 18-month stint with a veterinary nonprofit in Nicaragua.
In 2019, she teamed up with longtime friend and fellow UMass alum Dr. Derek Cavatorta to launch Black Brook Veterinary Services, combining their shared vision for accessible, high-quality equine care.
Dr. Sara now lives in South Hamilton with her husband, Doug, and their son. Their household also includes Rosie the dog, Frankie the cat, and several horses (the exact number remains a closely guarded secret). She enjoys exploring the area’s scenic trail network on horseback.
Professionally, Dr. Sara is passionate about helping equine athletes stay healthy and sound. She is certified in Equine Spinal Manipulation and has special interests in internal medicine, particularly endocrine disorders and senior horse care, as well as emergency medicine.
